Het betreft een unieke hofjeswoning uit 1881 en is een van de vier woningen in een heel groen en kleinschalig hofje gelegen achter de hoofdbebouwing van de Malakkastraat, bekend onder de naam Malakkahofje.

Unique little house in the Archipel Neighborhood
This concerns a unique courtyard house dating from 1881 and is one of four homes situated in a very green and small-scale courtyard located behind the main buildings of Malakkastraat, known as “Malakkahofje.”
The row of four houses is accessible via a narrow passage from Malakkastraat. Courtyard houses in The Hague have a rich history, and this property is no exception. Malakkahofje was built by carpenter Joh. Willem Bakker and his cousin Coenraad Bakker. It consists of two floors beneath a continuous gabled roof covered with tiles. The square extensions in front of the houses were added at a later date. In 1888, number 96 was home to Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis, the founder of socialism in the Netherlands. It is therefore no coincidence that its historical value is recognized by the municipality. As such, this property falls under a protected cityscape designation and is classified as a municipal monument.
